Sabre Stage 3 ECU Software – Focus ST MK3

The Focus ST MK3 introduces the new Ford Ecoboost platform in 2012 and what a departure it is from the previous 2.5 engine. One less cylinder and less displacement, but more power and torque due to the new high compression GDI engine which is coupled to a very tight and refined chassis. It is an exceptional engine in concept and accordingly features a new and very complex Bosch/Ford ECU architecture. This has become the mainstay for of all Ecoboost Ford ECUs up to present day albeit with significant revisions to suit.

As we have noted in our Stage 1 & 2 upgrades, the factory turbo is certainly on the smaller side limiting power to around 300bhp. In order to go beyond this level we can introduce the option of aftermarket turbos such as the Sabre 350R or the Sabre 400RS. These offer very fast response like standard and being a direct fit allows easy installation with existing hardware. As a general rule we can expect to see between 330-350bhp on a standard engine using a good fuel. It is possible to see further gains up to 375bhp with the addition of better fuels i.e. octane boosters, water/meth or E85 blends, and/or the addition of high lift camshafts to allow for greater airflow at higher rpms.

For those with aftermarket turbos such as a Garrett Powermax, G25-550 or GTX2867R, the Sabre Stage 3 mapping can fully optimise these set-ups to suit the limitations of the standard fuel system and engine internals. For those looking to go beyond these limitations then take a look at out Stage 4 upgrades.

Recommended Hardware
The Sabre Stage 3 requires the addition of a bigger turbo e.g. hybrid, 400RS, G25-550, GTX2867R etc. Options for cams and water/meth injection are also very good for the highest gains at this level. The standard fuel system can support power up to 380bhp so there are no requirements to change fuel pumps or injectors.
